Letter: Measures threaten religious liberty in Washington state

Editor,

The state House has passed two Orwellian-named bills that are now before the Senate.

House Resolution 1, the so-called “For the People Act,” violates the U.S. Constitution by allowing the federal government to usurp the states’ rights to oversee elections. It codifies many of the weaknesses into the election system.

HR 5, the so-called “Equality Act,” erases women’s sports and forces people of faith to violate their beliefs, or to either choose to close their small businesses or faith-based organizations or face the consequences of disagreeing with the SOGI belief system. It explicitly guts the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Punishing people of faith is the opposite of equality.

Tell Senators Murray and Cantwell to vote no.

Our state Senate passed bills that attack religious liberty and the freedom of conscience. All enshrine the critical theory philosophy.

In America, people of different belief systems have coexisted. Critical theory will have no other gods before it. It will stand alone as the state religion.

These bills will force educators, students and the health industry to be indoctrinated in critical theory.

• SB 5044 “Concerning professional learning, equity, cultural competency, and dismantling institutional racism in the public school system.”

• SB 5227 “Requiring diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism training and assessments at institutions of higher education.”

• SB 5228 “Addressing disproportionate health outcomes by building a foundation of equity in medical training.”

• SB 5237 “Expanding accessible, affordable child care and early childhood development programs.” This requires children from birth to age 4 to be taught anti-racism/dismantling institutionalized racism. All daycares and preschools must do this. Private and religious schools are not exempt.

Please contact Rep. Greg Gilday and Rep. Dave Paul to vote no on these bills.
