Letter: Losing retail center would hurt residents

Editor,

This is a message to Crystal View Capital, a “family business” in Las Vegas, NV.

You are going to destroy our entire community when you close businesses at the plaza you own at Ken’s Korner in Clinton.

This shopping mall is the center of our community. The grocery store is an absolutely necessity for the people who live on this remote island. The other businesses are absolutely necessary for our lives – an animal adoption store that has done more for rescuing animals than any other business in the country, a thrift shop that let’s some of us have the necessities to live, a bagel shop that has been universally acknowledged as the best in the state, and a sandwich shop also acknowledged as one of the best in the state.

This is where we have gathered for decades.

Are you really going to evict all these community businesses so you can make a little bit of profit to build useless storage units to store the garbage that people don’t need and never needed?

When I contacted you a couple years ago you said you would never close these businesses. How do you live with yourselves and your own families?

It’s not just dollars and cents for the people who live here.

You pretend you can’t lease the empty spaces while you have quadrupled rent prices and raised utility prices 10 times over from $9,400 to $49,000. Your true intentions are beyond obvious — even for us country bumpkins who live in Clinton.

You should feel shame for destroying a community.
