Editor,
I am writing in response to a letter from Bill Merrill, on Saturday, March 1, 2025 wherein he accuses the Whidbey News-Times of being biased against President Donald Trump. He bases his claim of bias at least partly on letters from letter writer Michael Seraphinoff, who he labels as a Marxist, even though he offers no credible evidence of that. He identifies him as a former Professor at Skagit Valley college. Maybe he assumes that all college professors are Marxists He Claims, again with no evidence provided, that Professor Michael Seraphinoff indoctrinated his student with “far left political bias”
He also condemns your political cartoons as being biased and “without humor.” I wonder if he understands the basic difference between a political cartoon and one for the comics page.
I would like to enlighten Mr. Merrill that the purpose of the editorial pages is to express opinions, which you may or may not agree with. It might even benefit you to listen to other opinions, to see if you can learn something new.
