Letter: League, library hosts two candidate forums this week

Editor,

The General Election will take place on Nov. 8. Ballots will be in the mail by October 21.

The League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island, in partnership with Sno-Isle Libraries, will host virtual Candidates’ Forums at 6 p.m. on October 18 and 20. The Oct. 18 forum will feature candidates for Island County assessor, auditor, clerk, sheriff and treasurer. The Oct. 20 forum will feature candidates for Legislative District 10 state representative, Positions 1 and 2, and for Island County commissioner, District 3. The Leagues of Skagit and Snohomish Counties will join our Whidbey Island League for the second forum. The public is invited to attend these important voter information events online. The Zoom link to the forums will be posted on the League’s website, www.lwvwhidbey.org, one day in advance of each event.

Watching a candidate forum is one of the best ways for voters to prepare for casting their ballots. These forums help voters learn more about the candidates and their stance on key issues. The candidates that we vote into office will make important decisions that affect us, our families, and our communities.

The League of Women Voters is proud to be nonpartisan, neither endorsing nor opposing candidates or political parties. Voter education is the core mission of our League. Voter participation in elections is fundamental to our democracy.
