Letter: Facebook post sets record straight

Editor,

For anyone who hasn’t voted and is still undecided, this is from a Facebook post by Clyde Shavers for State Representative:

“A flyer personally attacking my military service and family was sent by Greg Gilday and his backers – and I’m here to set the record straight.

He claims that I didn’t graduate from nuclear power school. I commissioned into the nuclear submarine community after the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated from nuclear power school February 2014 as shown in my military record. In 2015, I transitioned to serve as a public affairs officer.

(For) the past 12 years (I’ve been) at the U.S. Naval Academy and in the military, I was serving both domestically and abroad to defend our freedoms. While Gilday was forcing Stanwood to pay him $835,000 (https://tinyurl.com/zsvphj84), I was serving.

Not only does he attack my military service and family, he attacks me personally.

His legislative record … shows he’s done nothing for veterans – Gilday voted ‘no’ on House Bill 1733, a bill that would’ve exempted the spouses of active-duty military and disabled veterans from paying WA Cares premiums which could’ve saved them hundreds of dollars.

Gilday votes against lowering healthcare costs and expanding access to quality healthcare …. He also opposes access to contraceptives, preventative and prenatal healthcare, abortions, and treatment for women whose lives are at risk due to miscarriage / pregnancy complications.

Good guys don’t attack veterans. Good guys don’t attack struggling families. Good guys don’t tear others down. I believe that Gilday has just proven why he’s unfit to represent us.”
