Letter: Evidence shows wearing a mask is not harmful

Editor

This letter is in response to two letters in the paper dated August 18th.

The first, Sharing views of anti-masker is ‘irresponsible’ by Fred Herzon, MD, states that wearing a mask to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is supported by epidemiologic studies published in Proc Natl Acad Sci USA in January. And, ” there is no evidence that mask wearing is harmful”.

The next letter, ” Parents ‘experts’ when it comes to protecting kids”, by James Boyes, says ” there is little, if any, peer-reviewed medical science that demonstrates the effectiveness of facial masks against the spread of COVID-19. There is, however, ample evidence of harmful effects of wearing these masks”.

As an RN for 45 years in the OR area, I wore a mask a great deal of the time. I was never aware of any harmful effects of wearing one. Dr Herzon provides medical evidence. Unless you can produce evidence of harm, your statement is just your opinion, not based on medical fact.
