Letter: Environmental change should start with us

Editor,

Technological wonders — each and every day technology adds to our daily lives.

Electric cars, solar, wind turbines and now, possibly, electric aircraft. It makes one feel positive about the future of the planet.

There are some brilliant minds in the younger generation who clearly see that we can not continue to abuse our precious planet.

We all know profit drives everything in business and there are definitely some making indecent amounts of money doing so.

Is the planet profiting?

Why is recycling not one of those ventures? No profit I have been told when inquiring about that.

Recycling companies are caught in the middle. We are choking on clear plastic, despite the fact they are numbered 1 and 2, they are thrown in the trash.

At times it is almost impossible to avoid this packaging.

Let us put Whidbey Island on the map for change. Why are certain stores still using plastic bags?

A start.
