Editor,
Tuesday, Sept. 25 is National Voter Registration Day. Across the nation, members of the League of Women Voters will help individuals exercise their most sacred right in a democracy, by providing assistance in registering individuals to vote.
For nearly 100 years, the LWV has fought to protect the rights of eligible voters and expand access for those who have been left out of our democratic process.
In keeping with the League’s commitment to expand access for those who have often been left out or overlooked, our local League, LWVWI, will focus our voter registration drive on those who have had limited access to register and vote.
This year our League will be reaching out to underserved communities by delivering registration forms and assisting online registration at Regency Senior Living and Oak Harbor Senior Center.
The elections office in Coupeville also offers help for those registered voters who have difficulty reading or filling out their ballot. Other leagues will be reaching out to food banks in support of resource-challenged voters.
Washington State is committed to making voting easy and accessible to everyone who is eligible.
As an all-mail voting state, this year you can return your ballot without worrying about a stamp as the state will pay for postage. How cool is that?
Here on Whidbey Island, we are fortunate to have a very high percentage of registered voters and we are grateful and proud of the high degree of participation they regularly demonstrate.
Remember, your vote is your voice. Let’s hear from every one of you. Our democracy depends on it.
