Letter: Commissioners were right to approve housing project

Editor,

I was pleased to read that the motel in Freeland was approved for use as bridge housing for those who are homeless or at risk for becoming homeless (South Whidbey Record, July 15). Thank you to Commissioners Bacon and St. Clair for voting yes. The article dealt very well with the complexity involved in making this decision.

Obviously, there are some risks involved. On the other hand, surely we have an obligation to address the plight of the homeless (our fellow human beings, after all!). And I agree with those who argue that it is unfair to assume the worst about the people who would be living in this facility.
