Kudos to our county commissioners for their resolution to acknowledge the long-term economic consequences of racist property deeds in Island County.

In MAGA America, efforts to address racism takes courage. The Trump regime, by withdrawing federal funds from anything to do with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, pretends that racism never happened nor happens today. Thanks to our commissioners and this newspaper for the reminder that the effects of racism are both historical and current. Since the inauguration, public support of anti-racism, pro-disability, pro-woman efforts have disappeared in so many places. Wisdom is never gained by choosing to close our eyes to the experiences and perspectives of others.

Let’s renew our commitment to undo racism, to be truly inclusive, to experience equity in all things American, and to delight in our diverse America.
