Letter: Blotter should omit incidents involving mentally ill

Editor,

Whidbey Island has difficulty with mentally challenged free-ranging individuals.

For someone who makes an effort to read all law enforcement reports from numerous publications, I find the heavy concentration on the reporting of the mishaps of those individuals to be alarming and possibly misleading for readers who subscribe to our local publication.

We know that there is a problem on the island, but why are we advertising it? Reporting the entries from 911 calls should inform the general public and possibly help them to be informed on what is occurring in their neighborhoods.

Please begin to screen the entries where someone is definitely in need of outside assistance and proactively refer them to the help they so need.
