Editor,

I have observed that less than half the pool users shower before getting into the pool. There are signs saying “a shower is required before getting into the pool or hot tub.”

I have brought this up to the pool board, the pool administration and staff on numerous occasions. The answer I always get is, “We always pass our pubic health board inspection. We put a lot of chlorine in the pool to take care of the fecal load and bacteria.”

So, they feel no need to ask patrons to shower who are obviously dry when getting into the pool or just walk in and remove clothing to their bathing suits they are already wearing. Sometimes getting into the pool in sweat pants and sneakers they are already wearing.

The public health department can’t keep an observer there to see if the pool is enforcing the public health department requirement to shower before getting into the pool.

I use a full face mask and ear plugs to limit my exposure to the pool water when I swim there.
