Leave religion out of land use

The sect hit with a moratorium is not Eckankar (News-Times, Jan. 20).

I’ve noticed The Whidbey News-Times doesn’t usually report a person’s religion in articles about that person’s land use conflicts with Island County. In your front page story, you reported that Mayrine and Larry Beckett are affiliated with the Eckankar Religion. There is no connection between the Eckankar Religion and the Selestial Initiates Exonerare group who I read sent a representative to the hearing. There is no connection between the Eckankar Religion and the land in dispute. So your article says these folks are having some extreme difficulties with their land and they belong to the Eckankar church. That is like reporting so and so got a speeding ticket and he is Lutheran.
