It’s time to link our county

Thanks for the July 19 article on the possibility of ferry service between Whidbey and Camano islands. Ferry service is long overdue and would be such a benefit to us islanders and especially those on Camano who have to make the long drive around through traffic, construction projects and at times crazy weather to do business on Whidbey or with the county.

I’d like to hear more about the local business’ proposals regarding the ferry service, what type of boat they’d use (the style, design, capacity, etc.) and how much they think it would cost to go across by car and foot.

I know Skagit County operates a small ferry to Guemes Island through its Public Works Department. Could Island County do the same? Maybe using a boat the size of the Steilacoom II, currently in use on the Keystone to Port Townsend run?

I hope a Whidbey to Camano ferry doesn’t take too long to get up and running. It makes a lot more sense, and less cost, than building a new bridge to Fidalgo.

Just think: Island County could finally be linked!
