It is a pity that NIMBY’s and kill-joys have railroaded county officials into denying permission to build a disc golf course at Rhododendron County Park. Especially as, according to the news report, compromises were made and it was agreed that no trees needed to be cut down.
This is a public park, not a nature reserve, and should be available to recreation of all kinds. As it is, there are baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, playground equipment, paved parking areas, restrooms and trails. The facilities that make a public park and there is room for more.
As the naysayers are concerned about trees, a natural and renewable resource, perhaps they should turn their attention to the several truck-loads of logs that have been seen leaving the island everyday for the past few weeks.
