I am finding it really hard to believe that there is a concern that people would actually travel off-island to shop versus paying 30 cents more for a $100 purchase.
C’mon folks, do you think that is a valid choice, more gas versus supporting your community? Even if you drive a Prius, $6 in gas is twice the cost of $3 on a $1,000 purchase. If you really know someone who would do this, that is a very high price to pay for making a point. Most likely you’re going anyway.
If the supporters of Island Transit, who do no drive, do not own a vehicle and do all their shopping on the island are willing to vote yes, what does that tell you. You may have the option to come and go freely; some are not so fortunate, or like myself, just prefer not to leave.
And be very careful, because caring about your community and your planet does not make you a loser. So as far as love it or leave it, I’m staying and I take a stand to give my tithe to my community.
