I enjoyed Michael Monson’s June 8 letter to the editor.

It was well thought out and very insightful.

I now know that if I did something in 2012 4,834 times and I predict that I will do the same task 3,060 times in 2013 I increased my production 57.974 percent.

I assume this is new math being taught in the current Central Paradise world.

Also, commenting on Mr. Monson’s claim that closing Outlying Field in Coupeville will not close Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, I would hope he is right, but history tells another story.

For the newcomers like Mr. Monson, who purchased his home in 2006 in the flight path of an airplane training area after reading the 2005 Navy EIS which may have given him a clue that there would be airplane noise, I would like to present a quick history lesson.

On April 12, 1991, NAS Whidbey was on the base closure list.

At that time the only noise heard on Whidbey was everyone, and yes that would probably include some of the members of the current Citizens of the Reserve, taking in a deep breath.

It was common knowledge then and should be common knowledge now that without NAS Whidbey, Island County will still exist, but Mr. Monson will be paying, and I use his new math here, a lot more in taxes for his quiet Central Paradise.

From April 12, 1991, to June 30, 1991, when the Base Closure and Realignment Commission took NAS Whidbey off the closure list it took a monumental effort on the part of everyone to get the task done.

I do not remember one letter to the editor or one person talking in a public forum to fight this.

So, Mr. Monson, if Hogwash 4 is correct, good on you. But if you are incorrect, I would hope you volunteer to be on the committee to replace Navy – 0.
