Holding a Veterans Day parade is the right thing

Thankful for those who helped parade over the years

Editor,

I am writing in regard to the Oak Harbor Veterans Day parade.

I started the effort to put the parade together and was happy to watch our first-ever Oak Harbor Veterans Day Parade, which was on Nov. 8, 2012.

Each year thereafter I was able to keep it going. I would like to thank the Oak Harbor High School Band and ROTC, Diamond Rentals, Mr. Music, Island Brokers Realty, the Elks Lodge, Fleet Reserve Association and the Oak Harbor Police and Fire Department.

A big thank you to Whidbey News-Times for its support in paying for the parade insurance. Also, the American Legion staff for hosting the parade reception after each parade.

The Legion always put on a great feast and was the backbone to making the parade such a great success. I no longer have the time or resources to continue putting this event together and hope that another person or group will take it on and make it happen in the future.

Having a Veterans Day parade in Oak Harbor is the right thing to do and I appreciate everyone’s effort in the past.
