Hannold’s ‘cherry picked’ logic raises concern

Editor,

In reference to Commissioner Rick Hannold’s April 4 editorial, I was taken aback yet again that a person with the authority to influence our lives in tangible ways lacks basic reasoning and logic.

Mr. Hannold believes that humans have little to no influence over climate change. He points to the 1,350 studies in support of climate change skeptics, but ignores the fact that this number represents merely 3 percent of the opinion of climate scientists. He doesn’t believe the evidence-based conclusions of an overwhelming 97 percent of climate scientists; instead, he believes in the consensus of an extreme minority of scientists.

How does that make sense? He then changes direction. Instead of believing in scientific consensus at all, he would rather believe in what history tells us about the climate, despite the fact that the only way we know about the history of climate on earth is through the work of scientists, the same scientists that can show that human-caused climate change is real and dangerous.

I question whether someone with such scant reasoning and logic as Mr. Hannold should really be running this county. He’s deceptive and cherry-picks information. Consider voting for someone else.
