Psssst, hey Larry Dobson (“Soundoff,” Feb. 10, “Whidbey needs its own power”):
Want to wager that 99 percent of all generators sold on the open market in the USA today are powered by four-stroke engines?
I’ll even further wager that of the 99 percent, 20 percent of them are powered by diesel or some sort of compressed/liquified gas.
Let’s take a popular orange home improvement center and see if they offer a generator with a two-stroke engine.
Nope.
What about one of the local auto parts store that has an S in their name.
Nope.
What about the local saw and mower shop with the P in their name.
Nope.
Hmmmm, I sense a trend here.
Let’s look on the Web site for a popular (and expensive) car, motorcycle and generator manufacturer and see if they offer a two-stroke powered generator.
Well imagine that, none of the generators they sell use two-stroke engines!
They all use four-stroke engines.
And guess what, they are all EPA and carbon monoxide compliant.
Ooops….
Let’s see what engine a national generator manufacturer with the letter G in their name uses:
Four-stroke engine.
Another motorcycle/generator manufacturer with a Y in their name:
Nope, all four stroke engines.
How about that nationally-known maker of lanterns and camping stoves, they make generators, let’s see what engine they use for their generators.
My oh my, a four-stroke engine.
What about that nationally-known mower manufacturer, the one with the B and the S in their name.
They make generators. Guess what, they use a four-stroke engine in their generators.
You really should do your own research next time Larry Dobson, instead of regurgitating the vile and pernicious lies from whatever eco-nazi Web site you copied your “information” from.
Oh yea, about the biomass that dropped out of our trees and onto our power lines … most of it was removed by cutting it up into smaller pieces that could be safely moved.
Guess what tool is most commonly used to cut up trees?
A gasoline powered chainsaw.
What is the most common chainsaw engine type?
The two stroke engine.
