For a change, firefighters need your help

North Whidbey Fire and Rescue is a volunteer fire and rescue department helping our neighbors when they are having the worst days of their lives. We do everything from marine rescues to getting birds out of elderly ladies’ wood stoves.

We respond to medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, fire service calls (helping lift people that have fallen but don’t need medical attention), chimney fires, smoke alarms, broken water pipes, high angle rescues, removing trees from the power lines and across roads, and oh yes, structure fires. We are the closest and best trained marine rescue service to the Deception Pass and Oak Harbor areas. We have the same EMT and First Responder medical training as any big city fire department and our fire fighting training is the same as any city in the state no matter how big it is.

We leave dinners, birthday parties, Christmas dinners, church, our children’s sporting events and spend many sleepless nights to respond to the needs of our neighbors when they are having the worst times of their lives. We respond to help our neighbors because we care about them, we care about our community and we all volunteer because we want North Whidbey to be a safe place to live.

In the up coming election we need your help. We need you to vote yes on North Whidbey Fire and Rescue Property Tax Levy Lift. We need new air packs so we can safely enter hazardous environments, we need to maintain and repair our aging stations, we need a new boat for water rescue, we need to continue our current level of training as a minimum and continue to raise the level of training. Just think, with the new hybrid cars we need to get trained on how to deal with the very high voltages that are present. We didn’t need that kind of training five years ago.

We’re always ready to come to the aid of our neighbors when they need us, now we need you to help us. Won’t you please vote YES for the additional funds required so we can continue to provide you with the help you need and the level of service you have all grown to expect? We would really appreciate your yes vote in November.
