Clueless on spending

Like everyone else, my mind is reeling with the current actions of my elected leaders in Washington, D.C., as they rush to spend another near-trillion dollars on who-knows-what.

I thought it might be prudent as a taxpayer to find out where all this money was coming from so I called our legislators today and asked them where the money is coming from and here are their responses – and I am not making this up:

Sen. Cantwell’s staff: “Let me ask around the office and see if anyone around here knows,” and “I’ve been asking around myself and I think they are going to print the money but I’m not sure.”

Sen. Murray’s staff: “I’m actually not sure, but I’ll find out and get back to you.”

And Rep. Larsen’s staff: “I believe the bailout is paid by Treasury-issued debt but I’m not 100 percent sure. Can I get back to you?”

Now I know these staffers are being honest – I’m sure they don’t know. It illustrates how ludicrous our leaders have become. In less than 4 months they rush to spend 1.7 trillion dollars, but they have no clue where the money comes from.

The man who’s now in charge of collecting taxes doesn’t pay his own and our elected leaders think he’s qualified to oversee the Treasury Department. This is a circus. Washington State citizens deserve better than this.
