Citizens come through again

One of the main reasons I live in Oak Harbor is because of its citizens and hardly a day goes by that I don’t see an example of how they share their kindness and support of our community.

One of the main reasons I live in Oak Harbor is because of its citizens and hardly a day goes by that I don’t see an example of how they share their kindness and support of our community.

They did it again on Jan. 22 at several places around the city. On that day Interfaith Coalition of Whidbey Island (ICoWI) held a canned food drive and rental assistance fund drive on the corner of Highway 20 and Beeksma Drive in the parking lot of the old Ford garage. You may have seen us there.

Also, if you were out shopping, you saw some of our number at Safeway, Albertsons, Saar’s and Red Apple.

ICoWI would like to say thank you to everyone who donated food and dollars to the cause. You are special and we want you to know your donations will be put to good use at Help House and in the Rental Assistance Program.

We also would like to express a special thanks to Walmart, Safeway, Albertsons, Saar’s and Red Apple for allowing some of our volunteers to recruit donations at the front of your stores.

To the citizens who drove by, stopped to see what was going on and then drove to a market to get a box of food, and to those who showed up all day long with boxes and sacks of food, thank you.

We hope to continue having functions like this every year.

We consider the day a success because you donated 3,000 pounds of canned food and $1,000 for the Rental Assistance Fund.
