Business boosts Little League

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the local businesses of Oak Harbor for their support of North Whidbey Little League. If we were forced to operate solely on registration fees, the cost would be prohibitive for many of the families of Oak Harbor. However, with the help of our community, over 500 children have a chance to play baseball and softball. As we grow as a Little League, we were running out of space to house all the equipment needed to run our program. John Encinas of Encinas Construction, INC. saw our need and stepped up to the plate. He solicited donations from Frontier Building Supply, ABR Roofing, Galer Gutters, Old School Roofing and Mary’s Weeding Service and built a much-needed extension to our concession stand at no cost to the Little League.

We also needed to replace a few scoreboards that were decades old. Kenny McGuire and his crew at Les Schwab volunteered to purchase a new scoreboard for us and Ben McAninch of A & A Electric spent many hours hooking them up and ensuring they operated properly. Of course, I have to give a big thanks to Hank Nydam and all of the city park and recreation department personnel for the time and effort they put into getting the fields ready to play.

There are many more local businesses that have donated funds and support to our league, too many to list them all, but their support and generosity is much appreciated.

In closing, all I can say is “thank you Oak Harbor” and let’s play ball.
