Better ways to help businesses

We’re writing to let your readers know that the businesses on Pioneer Way are hurting due to the road construction project and desperately need business now more than ever. The flashing billboard on Highway 20 is a pathetic attempt to draw people to the old downtown area, Oak Harbor’s heart and soul (and the only place in the town that isn’t a strip mall). Instead of spending more money on lame advertising, why not divide the remaining dollars amongst the businesses affected and let them design their own promotions (i.e. 2-for-1 entrees, percentage off coupons, etc.). If these businesses are forgotten there will be no one to experience the road improvements when it is completed because they will have closed.

By the way, your readers should know that Sweet Rice serves the most delicious Thai food on the island and has great service, too (parking in rear)!
