Lightning strikes over Admiralty Bay near Coupeville Aug. 29. The first significant rainfall of the coming autumn yielded between a quarter and a third of an inch of precipitation on Whidbey Island, according to data from National Weather Service and Washington State University. The storm also lit Whidbey skies with lightning strikes, and the usual ambiance of jet noise was replaced with the rumble of thunder.
