More than 700 people attended KWPA’s three Old Time Radio performances this summer, raising about $7,000 for the station, which will allow the organization to move into a new, spacious studio on Front Street.

The Coupeville radio station used to be housed in a 60 square-foot room on the wharf.

“The event raised awareness about KWPA in new ways,” board member Harry Anderson said. “It truly built a community of support for our little station and spread word about our plans to keep growing.”

The station will use the remaining proceeds from the fundraiser to pursue a full-power license with the Federal Communications Commission that would allow its signal to reach nearly all of Whidbey and Camano islands.

KWPA hopes to make the Old Time Radio shows an annual event.
