The owner of Whidbey Jeweler is the man behind a new plan to festoon local businesses with strings of lights.

“This is about all of Oak Harbor,” he said.

The Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to string the lights — no color, just white — to create a cozy, festive feeling that will hopefully draw more people downtown.

“We’re aiming for at least 25 (businesses),” said chamber director Christine Cribb. “I’m hoping we have lights up all over Oak Harbor.”

In the 12 weeks leading up to Christmas, Mack also is giving away a prize each week. You can enter for free at his shop on Barlow Street.
