Small-scale growing featured at former pheasant farm

Penn Cove Grange will be hosting the Small Agriculture Producer Caucus on Saturday, Nov. 5 at noon, at 180 Parker Road just south of Coupeville, the old pheasant farm.

“We are excited to host this group on their first visit to Whidbey Island,” said Penn Cove Master Bob Cadwallader. “This is an opportunity for various small agricultural producers, and other interested parties, to learn about preserving  the remaining small, sustainable farms on Whidbey Island.”

The event will feature speakers from the Small Agriculture Producers Caucus on how they are working to preserve small farm agriculture in their communities across the state.

Penn Cove Grange is the local affiliate of the Washington State Grange. It was recently organized to support agriculture in the North and Central Whidbey Island Communities. Deer Lagoon Grange in Langley is also helping with this event.

Rusty Hunt from the Washington State Grange Membership Team will be speaking on how the grange is working to help the small agriculture producer. In June, the Washington State Grange adopted the position that it will “pursue an active role as an advocate for small agricultural producers in their dealings with government entities.”
