Finding a job with Boeing will be easier for islanders who attend a special aerospace workshop at Oak Harbor WorkSource next week.
“It comes at a good time with Boeing averaging 100 new hires a week, plus getting the tanker contract,” said Rick Van Cise of WorkSource communications.
“We’re finding that people from construction and other hard-hit industries have skills that easily transfer to Boeing, but they don’t always find it easy to express those talents in their resumes and the online application process for aerospace firms,” Van Cise said.
Through its partnership with Boeing, WorkSource is hosting free workshops with Boeing-trained job coaches who teach applicants the resume, application and interview skills needed to get noticed.
The workshop for Whidbey Island will be Thursday, April 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Oak Harbor WorkSource office, 31975 Highway 20, Suite 3.
Van Cise said WorkSource has already helped hundreds of applicants get hired who were unsuccessful before attending these special workshops, which are held throughout the greater Puget Sound area.
The Oak Harbor workshop will be a good way for job-seekers to gain the attention of the aerospace giant, according to Paul Trause, Employment Security commissioner.
“For every 100 applicants, Boeing screens out about 75 of them, often because they didn’t know how to accurately describe their skills,” said Trause in a news release. “WorkSource is turning that trend around by teaching job seekers how to develop résumés and applications that get screeners’ attention.”
Boeing-trained job coaches will be on hand to help applicants navigate the hiring process.
WorkSource is a statewide partnership of Employment Security, other state agencies, local governments, colleges and nonprofit organizations that work together to provide free employment and training services to job seekers and employers.
WorkSource can also help employers recruit and screen for qualified workers, apply for employment tax breaks and qualify for subsidized employee training.
