The Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce office and visitor’s center is moving into a soon-to-be-renovated historical building in downtown Coupeville.

Coupeville Town Council member Tom Tack, who is also vice president of the chamber board, announced during a recent council meeting the Chamber of Commerce will move into the first floor of the old fire hall on Alexander Street after it is renovated.

“It gives them a street front visitor’s center,” Tack said.

The chamber has been working out of Mariner’s Court, located at the corner of Front and Alexander streets, which is adjacent to the fire hall building.

The Town Council recently approved selling the long-vacant fire hall to the Ware Family, who will renovate the building in the coming months. The town sold the building for $1,000 with the requirement the building be renovated within 90 days. Public restrooms also have to be provided.

Lynda Eccles, executive director for the Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce, said chamber officials always wanted to be located in a historic building. She said the rent to be paid for the fire hall is comparable to the rent they currently pay in Mariner’s Court.
