Kestrel SkyHawk swooped in with bald and golden eagles for the public to see.
SkyHawk, the education director at the Sarvey Wildlife Care Center, held a presentation with live raptors Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Coupeville Recreation Hall. More than 80 people attended the event, which was hosted by the Whidbey Audubon Society.
People began to cheer when former state senator Mary Margaret Haugen entered the room.
“We are here for a single purpose, to thank Mary Margaret Haugen for serving this community,” said Island County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson.
Approximately 100 residents from all over Whidbey Island descended upon the Coupeville Recreation Hall Wednesday to thank Haugen for her decades of service representing the 10th Legislative District, which represents Island County and parts of Skagit and Snohomish counties.
The wedding and event markets are growing, and businesses on Whidbey Island are looking to take advantage of it.
Gloria Mickunas, owner of Whidbey Party Girls! is spearheading Weddings on Whidbey and Events Tour on Nov. 9. There’s no way to get a taste of the entire island in one single day, she said, but this cumulative tour helps visitors come close to that experience.
“It’s not Clinton, Oak Harbor, or Langley competing against each other, it’s about everyone working together,” Mickunas said. “My community is Whidbey Island.”
Business owner Vanda Coleman is dancing her way to a new location in downtown Oak Harbor.
Her store, Fantasia Boutique, moved to 665 Southeast Pioneer Way two weeks ago, and Coleman is excited to be there.
“At the old location, we were upstairs and it wasn’t working,” Coleman said. “We wanted to make sure everyone could reach us.”
The boutique supplies island residents with quality dance equipment, such as shoes, practice wear, performance outfits and more.
