Thank you, Coupeville, all Whidbey and mainlanders for another successful Coupeville Lions Club Garage Sale.

This year we moved back into our original digs at the Coupeville Elementary School campus. June 28 was a preview day, followed by Saturday’s big sale day that began at 9 a.m. with the sound of the infamous air horn.

Sunday, June 30, was half-price day for serious bargain hunters seeking that magical something. Our revamped plant sale donations sent hundreds of healthy plants home with happy gardeners and a Master Gardener’s information booth answered garden concerns.

This year’s fundraiser with community donations, volunteers, school support and, of course, you shoppers raised nearly $40,000. This will be reinvested in worthy Coupeville school, community and global causes.

Efforts include: a hearing and sight van for elementary school students, glasses and hearing aids for community members, free loans for home health equipment, roadside trash cleanup, sponsorships of two Scout troops, blood drives, Camp Casey swim program, elementary school garden support, sports equipment for the high school, woodcutting for those in need, local food bank and many more.

That’s always a win-win for Coupeville and some tired but “roaring” Lions Club and community volunteers. We couldn’t have done this without such community support and appreciate everyone’s efforts, which ensured a successful 40th annual Garage Sale.

We thank the Coupeville School District for use of the school, and the high school sports teams that helped set up this annual event. After a well-deserved rest, at the first of August, we will begin collecting donations of gently used items for next year’s garage sale.
