Oak Harbor suspect accused of pointing gun at another man’s forehead

An Oak Harbor man is facing a felony charge for allegedly holding a gun to another man’s forehead outside the man’s home Nov. 6, according to court documents.

The three people involved in the incident, however, offered different details about what happened.

Prosecutors charged Jason D. Norton, 39, in Island County Superior Court Feb. 28 with assault in the second degree with a deadly weapon.

According to a report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office, Norton called police just before noon and reported that a man tried to force his way into his house.

The deputy contacted the man, who had driven away from the scene.

The man claimed he had tried to get a child’s car seat from his wife and tracked her to Norton’s home; his wife and Norton are friends and work in the Navy together. He said he knocked on the door and rang the doorbell until his wife opened the door. He claimed that Norton suddenly came through the doorway, put a gun to his forehead and forced him to the porch, the report states.

He said Norton hit him with a gun and punched him.

Norton reported that the man had tried to forcefully enter his house by kicking and pushing the door open while yelling at the woman.

He said he put the gun to the man’s head and pushed him out the door and believed his actions were legal, the report states.

Norton’s wife reported that her husband is jealous of any friendship she has with men and tracked her to the house, but he already had the child seat. She said her husband started yelling at her at the front door and suddenly Norton went after him; she said he didn’t try to get into the house but may have put one foot on the threshold entrance, the report states.

The deputy arrested Norton on suspicion of assault.

“The assault occurred on the curtilage of the residence where access to the dwelling/building is not restricted to the public and after the threat or perceived threat of intrusion into the residence was curtailed,” the report states.
