Woman transported to hospital after collision Thursday

A woman was transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center after her car was struck Thursday morning on State Highway 20 near Northwest Broadway Street in Coupeville.

First responders said the woman was awake and alert upon their arrival, but requested medical attention because of some pain.

At around 11 a.m. a man driving a BMW southbound hit the woman’s Chrysler while she was stopped to turn off of the highway, said Washington State Patrol Officer Dave Martin.

The man had a bloody nose from his air bag deploying, but he declined medical attention, Martin said.

Firefighters from Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue cleaned up fluids that were leaking from the BMW, some of which spilled onto the paved Kettles Trail.
