Woman accused of forging prescriptions

Police say an employee at an Oak Harbor dental clinic used forged prescriptions to obtain opioid medication from pharmacies.

Prosecutors charged the employee, Lindsey A. McCollum, 35, in Island County Superior Court May 9 with three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by a forged prescription.

A manager at SeaMar Dental Clinic reported to police last September that a pharmacist at Safeway alerted her to the suspected forgeries.

The manager looked into it and found 23 prescriptions were forged and used to obtain Percocet and Norco at different pharmacies around the city, according to court documents.

McCollum allegedly admitted to taking a prescription pad and writing fraudulent prescriptions, according to the police report.

McCollum reportedly told an officer that she started taking the pills after a surgery earlier in the year.

If convicted of the charges, McCollum could face up to a year in jail under the standard sentencing range.
