Janessa Shareen Messmer, age 33, of Oak Harbor — longtime former Roseburg, Ore., resident — passed away at her home on Thursday, Jan. 19, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Messmer was born in Roseburg Nov. 2, 1983. Janessa attended schools in Sutherlin, Ore., graduating from Sutherlin High School in 2002. She attended Umpqua Community College for one year.

On Nov. 1, 2009, she married Kurtis L. Messmer in Roseburg. The couple lived in Sultan, Wash., for a time, and then moved to Oak Harbor, where they were currently residing.

Janessa loved music, especially metal and classic rock. She and Kurtis enjoyed off-roading together and were members of the Timber Tamers off-road club. She had been employed as a medical receptionist for the City Sleep Lab in Oak Harbor.

Janessa is survived by her husband, Kurtis Lee Messmer, at home in Oak Harbor; parents, Michael and Susie Dodds of Roseburg; brother Josh Dodds (Kortni) and niece Kayli Egger, both of Roseburg; grandparents Donna Hawkins of Roseburg and Dean Dodds (Pat) of Las Vegas; and her mother-in-law, Nicki Reed of Roseburg.

She was preceded in death by her German short hair pointer, Zeke, on Jan. 24, 2016.
