Coupeville Wharf fuel line project underway

The fuel line replacement project got underway Monday at the Coupeville Wharf.

Contractors have a portion of the entryway to the wharf closed off and were starting to remove fuel lines Monday afternoon.

Executive Director David Day said fuel purchases will be closed for about 10 days while the project is going on.

The wharf is still open to pedestrian and marine traffic.

Funds for the $180,000 project came from a rural economic development grant from the county.

The project will replace the current single-walled metal fuel lines with flexible double-walled fuel lines with a protective cover and leak monitoring.

Port Commissioner Marshal Bronson said the current fuel lines aren’t up to code with current standards and need to be replaced.

The project is anticipated to be complete Friday, Nov. 27.
