School bond: Imagine and learn more

Published 3:00 pm Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Imagine. The heating elements of your home are unreliable. Some rooms are cold, while others are unbearably hot. When you get up in the morning, you are unsure how to dress.

Imagine. You come to work one morning to find your office flooded. The ceiling panels are drenched. Water is dripping on your desk, on your books, around your computer and on to the floor. The short term remedy is sheets of plastic and garbage cans to catch the drips. Repairs can not be made until weather improves. Sorry. There is no other space for you to be moved to. So, you must sit amongst the drips and developing mold.

Imagine. A friend uses a wheelchair to get around. Every 55 minutes, he must negotiate varying terrain: Narrow hallways, loose thick gravel, steep inclines and heavy doors to open.

Imagine. You go to a public place every day. It is always crowded. You have six minutes to get from one place to another. People push and shove. On more than one occasion, your shoulder bumps into the wall.

For the staff and students of Oak Harbor High School, these scenarios are real. To learn more, take a tour of the building or watch a video presentation on Wildcat TV (Channel 21). Lend your support by attending a Kick Off rally for the campaign to pass the modernization bond. It will be held on Wednesday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. in Parker Hall.
