Edward Siegel

Edward Siegel, 71, of Oak Harbor, died May 30, 2007, in Coupeville. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 18, 1935, to Morris B. and Mary Ray (Kitsa) Siegel. At the age of 15 his family moved to Jacksonville, Fla., and Edward joined the United States Navy, where he spent the next 28 years of his life.
During this time Edward won many awards and commendations, including Navy Aircrew Wings, Air Medal, Good Conduct (six times), National Defense (twice), Navy Achievement, Vietnam Service (three times), Navy Arctic Service, Navy Commendation and numerous others.
After retiring from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer he joined the Island County Fire District 2 as a volunteer, winning Fireman of the Year twice.
He was also a member of Oak Harbor Lions Club for 20 years, winning the Melvin Jones Award and Lion of the Year twice; he served as chairman of the flag and fruit sales committee. During this time he met and married Beatrice Metcalfe and they were together for 23 years.
A volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program and Navy Retired Activities Office, Edward also belonged to the D.A.V., and drove a school bus for Oak Harbor School District for 16 years.
He enjoyed camping and travel, fishing and golf.
He is survived by daughters, Anne Louise Tarczuk (and her husband Raymond) of Greenwich, R.I.; and Patricia Altieri (and her husband Gary) of Warwick, R.I.; and three grandchildren.
His wife, Bea preceded him in death, in 2005.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
