John Spiegel, 55, of Pace, Fla., passed away on July 3, 2006 after an extended illness. John was born and raised in Moline, Ill. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and worked for NAS Whidbey Fire Department from 1973 to 1994. He transferred to Alaska and retired as assistant fire chief in 1999.

His retirement was spent in Cody, Wyo., Moline, Ill., and Pace, Fla. John enjoyed many things in life such as fishing, hunting skiing and traveling. The thing that brought him the most happiness was being with family and friends.

John is survived by Debbie, his wife of 22 years; daughter, Melissa Blake and husband Mark of Las Vegas; son, Sean Spiegel of Pace, Fla.; two grandsons, Garron and Leityn Blake of Las Vegas; his mother, Mary Spiegel of Moline; his sisters, Janet Jensen and husband Marshall of Modesto, Calif., Judy Lavelle and husband Jim of Rock Island, Ill., Jane White and husband Buck of Davenport, Iowa, and Joan Hein and husband Stu of East Troy, Wisconsin; his brothers, Jeff Spiegel and wife Penny of Moline, and Jerry Spiegel and wife Deanna of Moline. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held July 28 at Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill.
