Leonard Lang

Leonard John Lang died May 26, 2005 at Life Care Center of Skagit Valley, Sedro-Woolley, at the age of 69. He was born Feb. 24, 1936 in Oak Harbor to Robert C. Lang, Sr. and Izetta Jewel (Furhman) Lang.

Lenny, as family and friends knew him, was a lifelong resident of Oak Harbor. He was very active in sports during his high school time, playing football, baseball, basketball and track and was a member of the 1954 football championship team from Oak Harbor. He graduated with the Class of 1955.

Following high school, Lenny attended Central Washington College in Ellensburg, where he played football. He left college after his first year and returned to Oak Harbor. In 1956, he was married to Eleanore Nienhuis.

Lenny went to work for Columbia Valley Building Supply Company in Oak Harbor for a time, working in the lumberyard and then began work for Tesch Brothers, working as a hod carrier. He learned the art of brick laying, eventually becoming a brick mason. Lenny left Tesch Brothers and formed his own company, Lang Masonry, which he operated until his retirement.

Lenny loved the out-of-doors. He enjoyed hunting deer, duck and pheasant, fishing the high lakes, hiking and camping. His favorite area was the Lake Chelan area. He also liked to go to Eastern Washington and bring back fresh fruit. He enjoyed crabbing, clamming, picking mushrooms, playing cards and was a very generous man.

Lenny is survived by his wife Shirley (Christiansen) Lang and his former wife Eleanore Melton of Oak Harbor, by three children and their spouses: Steven and Patti Lang and Larry and LeAnn Lang, all of Oak Harbor and Jenni and Ron Clark of Mount Vernon; and one brother Robert C. Lang, Jr. and wife Nancy, also of Oak Harbor. Seven grandchildren and their spouses also survive: Mandy Lang and Brent and Kristen Lang, all of Oak Harbor; Elise and Ramiro Santoyo of Las Vegas, Nev.; Brian and Adrienne Lang and Kevin Lang, all of Oak Harbor and Jory Clark and Justyn Clark of Mount Vernon. Five great grandchildren, Shelby and Trevor Lang of Oak Harbor; Victoria, Vanessa and Ethan Santoyo of Las Vegas also survive Lenny.

Memorial services for Lenny Lang will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 2, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rick Karjalainen officiating. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at later date. Memorials may be made in Lenny’s name to Life Care Center of Skagit Valley, 1462 SR 20, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
