Raymond Brothers

Raymond Brothers died Oct. 22, 2005, at the age of 88, after a tough battle with cancer. He was born April 1, 1917 in Laurelville, Penn.

Raymond went to school in Laurelville. After school he went into the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s. He joined the United States Army in 1937 and worked his way up to Captain.

In 1947 Raymond met and married his wife Edna in Puyallup, Wash.

He retired from the Army in 1960 and settled in Puyallup, going to work for the University of Washington first as a campus policeman and later as a mail carrier on campus. He retired from the University of Washington after 17 years of service.

In 1999 Raymond and Edna moved to the Oak Harbor area to be near their daughter and her husband who were stationed at NAS Whidbey. They moved briefly back to the Seattle area and finally settled in Oak Harbor at Summer Hill Assisted Living Center.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna at Summer Hill. He is also survived by son Jonathan Brothers of Seattle and daughter Sandra LaFond of St. Louis Park, Minn. He also leaves grandchildren Louis and Joseph Brothers, Brian and Timothy LaFond and Tracy LaFond-Green and four great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his sister and one grandson, Ben LaFond.

At the request of the family there will be no formal services at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
