Dorcas Rozella (Rohrer) Mitchell was born Oct. 12, 1912, in a farmhouse near Englewood, Ohio. She was the second oldest of nine children born to Albert and Elsie Rohrer. She graduated from high school in West Milton, Ohio in 1931.
Several years after graduation, she went to live with an elderly couple in Dayton, Ohio to help care for the lady of the home who was ill. She stayed for 30 years. During that time she enjoyed traveling with the family, often to warm winters in Florida and California. They also visited Dorcas’ sister who lived in Hawaii.
Later in life, Dorcas continued to travel. She visited much of Europe as well as Egypt, Israel, Africa, Cuba, Canada and Mexico. She had friends all over the world and loved to write letter. She was very good at remembering birthdays and special occasions with meaningful cards.
In 1970 Dorcas moved to California where one of her sisters and many of Dorcas’ friends lived. There she enjoyed doing Bible Study Fellowship for ten years. She was also involved in a Christian ministry to prisoners at the Chino Women’s Prison.
While in California she met Hazo Mitchell. He was retired but kept busy as a handyman. When he fixed something for her she would repay him in pies. She was an excellent cook and he soon proposed. He passed away five years after they married.
In 1990 she move to Washington State to be near two of her sisters. She loved Family Bible Church and was involved in a prayer group to pray for missionaries, Bible studies and senior citizen activities. She frequently said that the reason she had lived so long was because God wasn’t finished with her yet.
Dorcas is survived by sisters Anna Mae Kohler of Ashland, Ohio and Marjorie Kott of Oak Harbor, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Elsie Rohrer; brothers Paul, Levi and Donald Rohrer, sisters Rachel Schildberg and nephew Paul Randall Kott.
