Mildred Dams

Mildred Dams, 92, died July 17, 2007, at Whidbey Island Manor, where she was residing for the last year and a half.
She was born in Michigan and married her husband Lester on June 1, 1939, in Holland, Mich. They served as missionary pastors at several churches in Michigan before coming to Oak Harbor in 1959 to serve at the San de Fuca Mission for the Christian Reformed Church. They later moved to Anacortes to pioneer a church there. From there they went to Rehoboth Mission, N.M., and then on to Crookston, Minn. They retired back in Oak Harbor in 1981 where she has lived for 26 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester in 1986. She is survived by her son D. Leslie and wife Donna Dams, two grandchildren, Barbara and Rod Gilmore of Oak Harbor and Steve and Celeste Dams of Stanwood. She has six great-grandchildren, Shannon and Brian Hamilton of Coupeville, Kari and Joe Marchese, Heather Gilmore, Dan Gilmore of Oak Harbor and Amanda and Adeline Dams of Stanwood. She also has one great-great-grandson, Ty Hamilton of Coupeville. She is also survived by one sister, Florence Brummel of Detroit, Mich., along with many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mildred Dams will be held at the Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, July 24, at 2 p.m. with Randy Beumer officiating. Remembrances can be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators for Marchia Bleeker or Gospel for Asia for John and Kathy Beers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
