Leota Rose Winn

Leota Rose Winn died Sept. 1, 2006 at Providence Everett Medical Center. She suffered a massive heart attack while at work at Whidbey General Hospital at 8:30 Thursday morning, Aug. 31. She was airlifted to Providence Everett Medical Center at 11 a.m. where doctors and nurses worked to revive her. She finally succumbed at 3:23 p.m. the next day.
Lea, as she was known as an adult, was born at the US Naval Hospital, New London, Conn., on April 11, 1945. She was raised in her mother’s home on Oahu, Hawaii, where she attended local schools and graduated from Kailua High School in 1963. She was active with the Kailua School Chorus.
Lea’s father Jack Winn, Sr., mother Ann Victoria Iwalani Delaney Winn and sister Natalie Elaine Winn preceded her in death. She leaves behind her sweet companion Joe McCormick, her brothers James W. Winn and Jack L. Winn, Jr. with wife Maureen. Lea also leaves behind her Grand-aunt Annie (Kilbey) Silva and Grand-uncle John B. Kilbey, both of Hawaii.
She also leaves behind her nieces and nephew: Rebecca A. K. Winn, Teresa M. Holt and husband Robert, Jeremy L. Winn and his wife Chrissy, Maile L. Montierth and her husband Bryce. Lea wants her grand nieces and nephews to know she loves them. They are Breeann Duckett, Keola Holt, Shaylee Hines, Analei Holt, Joseph Winn, Derek Winn, Darrell Duckett, Jr. and Brady Montierth. She leaves many other cousins, nieces and nephews behind in both Hawaii and on the mainland U.S.
Lea’s adult life was spent working in Hawaii at the Dole Pineapple Cannery, Liverty House Beauty Salon, Princess Kaiulani Hotel and finally at Whidbey General Hospital for the past 28 years.
The family wishes to thank all her friends and colleagues at Whidbey General Hospital and the doctors, nurses and staff at Providence Medical Center for their efforts and care of our sweet Lea. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service for Lea will be held at the Oak Harbor Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2001 NE O’Leary Street on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m., followed by a pot-luck reception for all who attend. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
