Glenn Lyle Bos

Glenn Lyle Bos, 81, transitioned peacefully to his Lord on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at his home in Oak Harbor after a short illness.

Glenn was born July 3, 1924 in Oak Harbor to “Nick” and Grace Bos, and had two siblings, Gordon and Eileen. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School, class of 1943, and after a short time enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was sent to Europe in time to be in “The Battle of the Bulge.” In 1946, he returned to Skagit County where his parents then resided.

He married June Freeman in 1950, they enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and hunting. Glenn was especially skilled at bowling and playing horseshoes. Twin sons, Donald and Ronald, were born in 1951. At that time, Glenn was herdsman at All-West Breeders and often told of how tired he was upon his arrival home each day, and would rock in his rocking chair, rocking the boys’ cradle at the same time. After 19 years, he was hired as groundskeeper by Skagit Valley College, where he retired in 1988.

Glenn will always be remembered for his wonderful smile and his special ability at making and keeping friends. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon where he endeared himself by maintaining their grounds until 2003, when he moved back to Oak Harbor. While he was in the Army he corresponded with a number of young ladies living in Oak Harbor. After 60 years, in August 2002, Glenn attended the triennial high school reunion held in Oak Harbor, and there found one of the ladies, Agnes Christensen (Balda), whom he had written to during World War II. A few months later, their friendship developed into a very loving relationship and they were married August 16, 2003.

Glenn was preceded in death by his first wife June, son Donald, his parents, and brother Gordon. He leaves behind son Ron, his wife Cathy, five grandchildren, Katie, in San Diego, Danny and Jenny, Oak Harbor, Don’s wife Pam and her children, Jason and Michelle of Bellingham, sister-in-law Grace Bos of Puyallup, and many nieces and nephews. In the short time Glenn was in Agnes’ family he endeared himself to her children, Wesley and Janis Balda, Shelly Cox, Scott and Sherri Rossmiller, grandchildren Christie Telles, Nathan, Erin, & Shelley Cox, Scott and Sherri Balda, Joanna and Samuel Balda, great grandchildren Shelbie Komac, Daelyn Telles, Gabriel Sherwood, and Aidan Balda.
