Ellen Eva-Sophie Woodward

Ellen Woodward, 85, a resident of Oak Harbor, was born April 14, 1921, in Berlin, Germany, to Friedrich and Elsa (Cohen) Gruenspan. She entered into rest on Oct. 18, 2006, in Mount Vernon, exactly 15 years after her husband Charles predeceased her.

Ellen left Germany with her mother to London in 1937. She was a survivor of World War II, during the bombing of London. She entered into marriage with Charles Woodward on Aug. 17, 1944 in Rushton, England. They were happily married for 48 years until Charles’ death.

Ellen is survived by her family, loving children Peter Woodward and his wife SherylAnn of Oak Harbor, Barbara Jean Tesch and her husband Arnold A. Tesch of Covington, Bridget Ann Zimmerman and her husband Lyle J. Zimmerman of Oak Harbor, 10 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many friends who will miss her dearly.

A celebration of Ellen’s Life will be held at NAS Whidbey Chapel located at Ault Field on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. Chaplain CDR Fred Renfroe will be officiating. Burial will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Affordable Burial & Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon.
