James Daniel Houlroyd died Sept. 7, 2006 after a short battle with cancer. He died at his daughter, Erin Houlroyd’s home in Lainsburg, Mich.
Jim was born in West Palm Beach, Fla., on May 16, 1945 to James and Susanne Houlroyd and grew up in New Jersey. He joined the Navy in 1965 and was stationed on Whidbey Island where he met and married his wife of 28 years, Linda House. After his tour of duty in Vietnam he worked in the computer industry and reached the level of Branch Field Manager for Digital Equipment Corp.
Jim had many interests which included sailing, target shooting, camping, reading and music. A self taught scholar, Jim enjoyed lively debates on subjects such as politics, philosophy, theology and religion.
Jim is survived by his loved ones, sister, Joan Stewart of Iselin, N.J., and his seven children, Michael Houlroyd of Austin, Texas, Erin Houlroyd of Lainsburg, Mich., Kimberly Houlroyd of Oak Harbor, Liam Houlroyd of Howell, Mich., Conan Houlroyd of Oak Harbor, Megan Houlroyd of Oak Harbor and Breanne Houlroyd of Oak Harbor. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jeremy, Bailey, Maya, Iain, and Ryane.
A private memorial is planned at Sunnyside by the family.
