Howell L. ‘Hal’ Owens

Howell L. “Hal” Owens passed away July 2 in Maple Valley, Wash. He was 69 years old.
Hal was born in Ashburn, Ga. on Sept. 24, 1937, and raised in Bremen, Ga. At the age of 17, he left to join the Navy. While stationed at Oak Harbor Seaplane Base he met Arlene Parry. They were married Jan. 16, 1959, and moved to Maple Valley in 1970. He worked for the city of Auburn from 1972 to 1998. He loved music and was rumored to pull over in his work truck when Nat King Cole played on the radio. He and Arlene liked to visit family in the south, but they loved their home in Maple Valley. He was an avid photographer, taking many pictures of his home and of nature. Hal was preceded in death by his wife Arlene in March of 2006. Survivors include his daughters LeeAnne Owens of Maple Valley, Alisa Andersen (Eric) of Bonney Lake, and Andrea Snodgrass (Jason) of Enumclaw; and grandchildren Aubry, Vanessa, Autumn, and Malachi.
Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 8, at the Edline-Yahn and Covington Funeral Home in Kent, Wash. The service is at noon, Monday, July 9 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn, Wash. Burial will follow the service at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. A memorial will be held at Seattle Union Gospel Mission at 3800 Othello Street, Seattle. Arrangements are by Edline-Yahn and Covington Funeral Home.
